Position Title: Data Engineer

Job Overview:

We're looking for a versatile and proactive Data Engineer to join our growing team. This role involves designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure that power analytics and reporting across the organization. You'll work closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders to move data efficiently, ensure system reliability, and support our long-term data strategy. The ideal candidate is agile, collaborative, and able to think critically through technical challenges in a fast-evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities:

* Pipeline Development & Maintenance: Build and maintain reliable, scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to support analytics, operations, and reporting.

* Data Infrastructure: Design and optimize data architecture across cloud and on-prem systems, enabling efficient data access and storage.

* Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with analysts, data scientists, and product teams to deliver high-quality data solutions.

* Performance & Scalability: Monitor and improve system performance, supporting infrastructure that's built for growth.

* Versatility in Execution: Own end-to-end data workflows, from ingestion to transformation to delivery-no silos here.

* Data Governance & Quality: Ensure data accuracy, lineage, and security, maintaining compliance with internal and external standards.

* Problem Solving: Tackle evolving technical challenges using a tech-agnostic mindset-emphasizing clarity, quality, and collaboration.

* Team Contribution: While independent and self-directed, you'll be part of a small, dynamic team where your voice matters and your initiative shapes outcomes.

Qualifications:

* Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (graduate degree a plus).

* Experience: Experience in data engineering, working across ingestion, transformation, and storage layers.

* Proven experience with SQL and at least one major language or platform (e.g., Python, Scala, Spark, Snowflake, AWS, etc.).

* Comfortable working in an evolving tech environment-open to learning and adapting as tools and priorities shift.

* Strong understanding of database systems, data modeling, and cloud architecture.

* Familiarity with orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt, or similar).

* Bonus: experience working with reporting or BI tools like Power BI, Tableau, or MicroStrategy.

The role is a blend of DevOps engineering, Release management and Environment/Infrastructure management. The role contributes to the team's service by leading on release delivery, improving team efficiency and productivity, by way of automation, process improvements, tooling, IT platforms, review and improvement of processes. The role supports BAU work: facilitating releases, release management, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure management tooling will be in scope. The person will also contribute to managing and optimising both production and non-production non-functional needs, e.g. stability, capacity, reliability, supportability. Strong focus will be on further automation of the build & deployment processes.



Responsibilities will include:

* Developing and delivering high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimised for performance.
* Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
* Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
* Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
* Implementating effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.



The successful candidate will have:
* Experience as a Senior DevOps or Release engineer or similar, with good understanding of CI/CD pipelines
* Strong experience in a scripting language (preferably Powershell), focused on automation of processes and Windows OS
* Ability to clearly and effectively communicate on technical issues with both engineers and business users

An ability to demonstrate a deep understanding and successful track record in the Machine Learning world is essential to be successful in your application for this position. Deep Learning and NLP (Natural Language Processing) are essential requirements for this position, alongside prior experience working hands-on with LLMs (Large Language Models), building advanced systems and RAG pipelines. They've had a fantastic 18 months with lots of positive expansion and with this in mind they're looking for Lead Data Scientist to join their Public Sector team delivering to their enterprise clients.

They'd like you to be the Data Science SME where you'll be responsible for leading e2e customer engagements in both a hands off and hands on capacity.

The role itself has 2 main parts to it which are important:

1. A commercial and consulting mindset - being able to explain how, what and why data is working in the way it's working to customers and them understanding your approach

2. A Data Science Engineering skillset - Experience in areas such as Python, Azure, AWS, CI/CD, IaC, Deployments, Containerisation etc
