Job description

Jefferson Frank is looking to speak with immediately available DevOps Engineers to work on a 6 month contract for a consultancy who have a high profile client within the public sector. This is an outside of IR35 contract which is fully remote as per the climate.

The client is based in Newcastle and would not rule out some travel 1-2 days a week after lockdown.

The client has confirmed any travel will be fully expensed.

Requirements



-Experience in Terraform, Gitlab CI/CD pipelines set-up and using AWS products and services
-Experience working with automation and implementation for microservices architecture
-Experience with AWS security, monitoring, alerting and notifications within an immutable infrastructure paradigm
-Excellent communicator and good team player

Good understanding of:
- Infrastructure as code
- Networking experience, familiar with routing, peering, DNS
- Service Discovery
- Monitoring / Logging
- Familiar with PKI
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines

In terms of specific technologies / products:
- Amazon ECS/EKS/EC2/EMR/Route53

Nice to have:
-Prometheus
-ElasticSearch / Splunk
-HashiCorp Vault
-Docker / Containerisation

Working as part of a 7-strong Engineering team you will work in an Agile manner on a large Government department project to build out an AWS platform for concept projects.

You will be responsible for:

* Delivering working code as per the sprint plan

Job Title: Principle Software Engineer

Duration: 6 month contract to hire

Roles & Responsibilities:

Ultimately responsible for the quality of architecture and design of applications within the Engineering Productivity organisation.
Improve the overall development process by identifying gaps or inefficiencies in work flows and suggesting solutions.
Streamline and simplify the flow of code from the engineer's fingertips to production deployment.
Design and build advanced infrastructure enabling fast iteration.
Partner with the manager and build a road map for the developer productivity team.
Partner with the customer engineering managers and principal leads to identify obstacles and define improvements in the engineering processes, systems, and tools to support the developers.
Develop and track key metrics for engineering performance, drive their improvement over time, and communicate their status.

-proven experience owning application development from "end to end" as well as developing tools and solutions.

-Strong hands-on experience with at least one back-end framework such as Java, Python, Golang, Ruby on Rails, etc.

-Passion for engineering quality (branching strategies, code reviews, testing methodologies, style guide adherence, documentation, etc.)

-Strong hands-on experience with at least one SQL variant, i.e. Postgres, MySQL, etc.

-Familiarity with software engineering practices including unit testing, code reviews, and design documentation.

-Ability to build tooling and/or services in one or more object-oriented programming languages.

-An interest in ideation and building internal products with other engineers as your customers

-Set up and administered common 3rd party and open source development tools

-Designed and optimised a tool chain other developers use to ship code.

-Must have strong written and oral communication skills.

-Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and enjoyment of learning from and teaching other team new skills.

BONUS POINTS FOR

Master's Degree in Computer Science or similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
Familiarity with deployment automation/configuration management viz. Terraform, Chef, CloudFormation.
Experience with Salesforce.
