    Contract Opportunity: Lead Azure Data Engineer (Remote - 500/day Outside IR35)

    We're hiring for a Lead Azure Data Engineer to join our team on a hybrid contract based in London, supporting key finance stakeholders and transforming our data platform. This role offers the chance to shape the future of financial reporting through cutting-edge cloud engineering and data architecture.

    Location: Central London (UK-based candidates only)
    Rate: £500/day
    IR35 Status: Outside IR35
    Start Date: ASAP - Interviews next week
    Duration: 6 months with potential for extension

    The Role

    You'll lead the design and delivery of scalable data products that support financial analysis and decision-making. Working closely with BI and Analytics teams, you'll help evolve our data warehouse and implement best-in-class engineering practices across Azure.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Build and enhance ETL/ELT pipelines in Azure Databricks
    * Develop facts and dimensions for financial reporting
    * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust data solutions
    * Optimize data workflows for performance and cost-efficiency
    * Implement governance and security using Unity Catalog
    * Drive automation and CI/CD practices across the data platform
    * Explore new technologies to improve data ingestion and self-service

    Essential Skills

    * Azure Databricks: Expert in Spark (SQL, PySpark), Databricks Workflows
    * Data Pipeline Design: Proven experience in scalable ETL/ELT development
    * Azure Services: Data Lake, Blob Storage, Synapse
    * Data Governance: Unity Catalog, access control, metadata management
    * Performance Tuning: Partitioning, caching, Spark job optimization
    * Cloud Architecture: Infrastructure-as-code, monitoring, automation
    * Finance Domain Knowledge: Experience with financial systems and reporting
    * Data Modelling: Kimball methodology, star schemas
    * Retail Experience: Preferred but not essential

    Project Manager / Lead Data catalog Expert - Contract

    Need a project manager who is comfortable working in data catalog implementations. Will be a greenfield implementation of MS Purview from a data catalog perspective. Their customer needs urgent help in this Seniority to drive their new Data management strategy. Should have worked in technical projects and cloud envirionments - but most importantly in data cartaloging implementations.

    *Only accepting candidates from UK, Finland or Sweden

    Fully Remote (2-3 days in Stockholm per month expenses paid for)

    Technical Skills:

    (Minimum 10+ years' experience)

    * Proven experience in data cataloging, metadata management, and data governance
    * Strong understanding of Microsoft Purview, (can understand and validate integration with Azure Data Factory, setup of Purview in a Azure tenant and integration with Databricks Unity catlog)
    * Ability to define and articulate what a data product is within a business domain and to drive all aspects of creation and curation - teach data owners and business users in the need of a data catalog and how to handle it.
    * Experience in data engineering, technical project management, or architectural roles is a plus
    * Knowledge of tools like Databricks, Collibra, or Elation is a big plus



    Soft Skills:

    (Senior Project Management)

    * Comfortable working in domains without intial clear data ownership and securing/escalating when such is not in place.
    * Strong stakeholder management across highly divisional environments
    * Ability to maintain focus and clarity in complex, multi-team settings
    * Excellent communication skills in English; Finnish and/or Swedish is a strong advantage. (If you find a Finnish, Swedish speaker you've hit the jackpot). Avoids jargon, can explain complex concepts simply
    * Able to enforce governance even when business pressure is high.
    * Strategic mindset with hands-on delivery capability
