    Salary up to £85k

    Looking for a unique opportunity to help establish an Engineering organisation with the oversight to design, implement, and lead a group responsible for delivering on growth and industry-changing strategic objectives?

    As Director of Engineering, you'll work closely with the leadership team to build a world-class engineering group. You'll be a "player-coach," focused on attracting and developing engineering talent, but also staying hands-on in the technology to oversee the development of an outstanding product and customer experience.

    The successful candidate will be a seasoned technology executive able to lead engineering teams delivering solutions in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You'll have a proven track record building platforms and scaling engineering organisations while executing critical programs.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    * Hire, mentor, develop, and retain top-notch engineering talent.
    * Create effective full-stack software development teams focused on the nimble delivery of value for our customers.
    * Inspired by industry best practices and sound principals, drive constant innovation through Architecture, Database, Engineering, and DevOps teams.
    * Collaborate closely with the executive team as well as cross-functional teams to deliver great products and solve customer problems as needed.
    * Maintain and improve agile processes collaboratively with the teams, and enable new development techniques or methods to reduce complexity, promote quality, and increase velocity.
    * Drive efficiency in your teams by eliminating blocks and focusing efforts on tooling, continuous integration/delivery, and maintainable automation testing.
    * Foster a culture of operational excellence in your teams through real-time monitoring and alerting.

    Qualifications

    * An interest in making an impact on the way money moves between people globally.
    * 5+ years of experience in software development management.
    * 1+ years as a Director of Engineering or above whose span of control is at or above 10 engineers.
    * A strong background in object-oriented programming in a language such as Java, C#, Objective-C or C++.
    * Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML / XSLT, SQL, database design, message-oriented-middleware, caching, and systems integration.
    * Hands on experience resolving performance and scalability issues of SaaS-based applications.
    * Experience with designing, building, and deploying secure, scalable services in the SaaS environments.
    * Strong fluency in Agile software practices.
    * Tolerant of high degrees of ambiguity, and good at resolving uncertainty and setting direction. Willing to backtrack, seek multiple solutions, and experiment to validate approaches.
    * Contributed to the establishment of Software Configuration Management practices.
    * Establishment and management of DevOps teams.

    The role is customer-facing and will entail liaising with customers to enhance current systems, plan and deliver projects, and implement new solutions.     RESPONSIBILITIES

    * Handle Infrastructure as code, contributing to making our infrastructure fully automated, simple, reliable, and easy to operate
    * Awareness of industry direction and trends in infrastructure as code tooling and best practices
    * Develop and implement systems that aid and facilitate our rapid growth including the implementation of deployment policies, future procedures, configuration management and planning for capacity upgrades
    * Design, operate and automate operational tasks, such as Networking configuration, Server provisioning, backup/restore, disaster recovery, monitoring and alerting
    * Implement an on-going cloud cost optimisation process and implement security best practices
    * Working with your agile team colleagues, your technical leaders/ Product Owners/ Scrum Master to build quality solutions that are capable of long term testability and growth whilst delivering focused, value driven changes to a high-quality standard

    Proven experience:

    * 3+ years' experience in DevOps/Software Configuration Management role
    * Managing the cloud infrastructure as code, using either CloudFormation or Terraform.
    * Maintaining highly available and performant environments.
    * Excellent Linux experience, and experience in at least one of the following tools: Puppet, Chef or Ansible
    * Managing and deploying AWS Load Balancers, RDS, Route 53, CloudFront, S3.
    * Managing and deploying Serverless applications: Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB
    * Working knowledge Docker containers, Kubernetes, AWS ECS
    * Networking, network security and have a deep knowledge of TCP/IP
    * Excellent automated builds and deployments experience.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    * Architect and provide technical direction for our approach for cloud/SaaS and on-premise products
    * Review and evaluate new and existing architecture and code to ensure it meets standards; or for existing products that they will operate within the overall cloud architecture.
    * Evangelize the cloud and microservice message and architecture within the development organization and to our field organizations, partners and customers
    * Lead on the setting and enforcement of architecture standards and practices affecting development of all new products as well as impacting existing ones. Develop these standards in coordination with peers in other divisions.
    * Research new technologies, including hands-on technical evaluation and POCs.
