We are partnering with an innovative and fast-growing energy technology company in Stockholm to find their first Engineering Manager. About the Role

As the Engineering Manager, you will play a critical role in optimizing team performance and delivery. You'll ensure that the engineering team operates efficiently, meeting product and technical objectives swiftly and effectively. Working closely with the CTO and CPO, your focus will be on team organization, delivery management, and performance optimization-allowing the CTO to concentrate on technical leadership and strategy.

Drive engineering execution, ensuring projects are delivered on time, at a high quality, and without unnecessary roadblocks.

Establish clear performance expectations, foster accountability, and create a structure where engineers can excel.
*

Cultivate a culture of ownership and precision, ensuring the team operates at its highest potential.

Optimize delivery processes, improving efficiency without adding bureaucratic friction.
*

Play a key role in scaling the engineering team, hiring top-tier talent as the company expands.

Have direct and honest conversations that shape the technical strategy and team performance.



Within Three Months, You Will Have...

*

Built trust and credibility with the engineering team through effective 1:1s and hands-on leadership.
*

Developed a strong understanding of the company's product, business, and technical challenges.
*

Provided constructive development feedback, implementing a lean but effective performance structure.
*

Helped to recruit and onboard at least one new software engineer.

Contributed to key decisions that positively shape the team's operational and strategic direction.



About You

*

5+ years of engineering experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role, ideally within a fast-moving startup environment.
*

Proven ability to steer small, high-performing teams (8-12 engineers) through rapid growth and change.
*

A strong track record of delivering complex projects efficiently, balancing execution with adaptability.
*

Skilled at setting performance benchmarks and holding teams accountable.
*

Comfortable with agile methodologies but able to create clarity and structure without rigid processes.
*

Sharp judgment, strong communication skills, and a pragmatic approach to leadership.
*

A team-first mindset-no ego, just a drive to help the team and company succeed.

Your Role

As CTO, you will:

*

Lead, Mentor & Inspire - Manage a small but dynamic development team of two developers (one senior, one mid-level), ensuring they have the guidance and resources needed to excel.
*

Be a Hands-On Tech Leader - You will actively contribute to development, leading by example and helping drive key architectural decisions.
*

Architect & Scale the Platform - Develop and oversee a robust DevOps strategy on Azure, optimizing our infrastructure for scale, performance, and security.
*

Drive Customer Integrations - Work closely with automotive ERP systems and payment service providers, ensuring smooth and reliable integrations for our clients.
*

Shape Our Technology Roadmap - Make strategic decisions that align with our vision for international expansion and growth.
*

Be the Technical Face of the Company - Engage with customers and partners, translating complex technical challenges into clear, actionable solutions.
*

Foster Innovation - Stay ahead of the curve by exploring and implementing emerging technologies to keep our platform cutting-edge.

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-responsibility startup environment and is eager to push boundaries. The ideal candidate will have:

10+ years of experience in software development and leadership, preferably in a startup or high-growth company.
*

Deep expertise in DevOps & Cloud (Azure) - Experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining scalable cloud infrastructures is crucial.
*

Strong Technical Background, with experience in some of the following:

*

Backend: Python, Rust
*

Frontend: TypeScript, React, Next.js
*

Databases: MongoDB, PostgreSQL
*

Infrastructure: Azure Cloud & DevOps

*

Experience in Payment Systems & Integrations (highly desirable).
*

A problem-solving mindset with a structured approach to handling challenges.
*

Excellent Communication Skills - Ability to articulate technical concepts to both engineering teams and business stakeholders.
*

Fluency in English (Scandinavian language skills are a plus but not mandatory).

Work Setup & Flexibility

*

Oslo-based with required on-site presence for the first 3-6 months.
*

Remote work flexibility, including international work periods, once established.
*

Customer-Facing Travel Opportunities - Occasional trips to meet clients and partners, including potential international engagements.
*

Preferably already based in Norway, but EU/Scandinavian relocators will be considered.
