We're looking for a DevOps engineers to join our Technology team on a permanent, full-time basis.

Despite the current circumstances we are still actively recruiting for roles. In compliance with UK Government advice relating to COVID-19, this role may initially be remotely based in line with the rest of our workforce and we will supply you with the tools and technologies to enable you to work in this way. During this phase, interviews will likely be conducted over video conferencing technology, e.g. Google Hangouts or similar.

It's a pivotal time for us as we drive forward our ambitious transformation programme, putting users at the heart of every product we create, evolving our technologies to deliver best in class user experiences. Over the next twelve months we will be developing both our commercial and advocacy product offering, trialling new ways of working, driving innovation and enabling the teams we work with, both supporting existing systems and in the provision of new ones.

What you'll be doing

As a DevOps Engineer, you will work across a number of our key systems, using modern DevOps techniques across the full infrastructure development lifecycle. This will be utilising mainly CircleCI, Docker, Git, Terraform, Python, Bash and AWS, including EC2, Elastic Beanstalk, RDS, Route53, ElastiCache, API Gateway, Lambda, VPC, Elasticsearch, WAF and CloudFront etc.

The application technology stack is also fairly diverse and includes Ruby, Python, PHP, Java, NodeJS, Redis, Postgres and MySQL. We work on a varied selection of projects with numerous teams across the business, using mainly Scrum within the Scaled Agile (SAFe) framework.

You will be joining a fun and supportive team, and sharing knowledge and collaboration are core team values. We will expect you to contribute your own ideas and expertise at all stages and hope that you will be able to work with us to shape our DevOps processes and drive improvement. What we'll need from you

Although ideally, we are looking for candidates that have prior experience working as a DevOps Engineer we will also consider exceptional candidates that are able to demonstrate a

real ambition to progress, and have proven success in a development or operations role that are considering transitioning to their first DevOps role. We ideally want someone who really loves technology and has a real interest in following DevOps trends and new practices.

You will definitely need to have prior experience of AWS and Docker and a solid knowledge of Terraform would also be desirable. An in-depth understanding of the HTTP protocol and a background in building high-availability distributed systems with horizontal scalability would also be beneficial.

The Platform Engineering capability within Digital is a growing team of people dedicated to ensuring that the technologies selected and the way that they are implemented meet the business objectives of our clients. Your Role

The role of our Platform Engineers is to focus on delivering highly available, scalable enterprise solutions on IAAS/PAAS platforms as part
of dedicated or cross-function teams to engineer modern solutions based on business goals with varying levels of a DevOps maturity.
Whether its building a Kubernetes cluster, configuring a logs analytics platform or deploying an highly available web service you will be
able to draw on the huge body of knowledge to lead outstanding results for your client, and to further your own personal
growth.

* Actively working with our clients on their journey into digital transformation. Including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS solution implementations, transforming their business by delivering solutions and methodologies following best practice.
* Implementation and maintenance of platforms and services based on the business requirements, constraints and strategies. You will be expected to contribute to documentation and standards for delivery of business functionality, infrastructure and system components.
* Applying technical innovation with contribution towards internal projects and client bids in order to win new business. Contribute towards the business units strategy directly through your own personal growth, alongside coaching and mentoring of our junior talent.

Your Profile

We are looking for engineers which have this ability along with a combination of skills and business experience in relevant tools and
technology which are aligned with the our domain space and are open to candidates of all technical backgrounds looking to crossover into
the platform engineering space (infrastructure, development, testing, operations and support).

* Experience debugging a complex, multi-server service in a high availability production environment.
* Experience of commodity cloud providers such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud (Production environments).
* Continuous Integration systems such Jenkins, Concourse, Drone & Bamboo, GitHub Actions.
* Configuration Management tooling (Ansible/Puppet/Chef/Salt) Good understanding of the HashiCorp Suite (Packer, Terraform, Vault, Vagrant, Consul)
* Containerisation - Docker, Kubernetes, Swarm, OpenShift. Testing, setup and configuration of monitoring/alerting tooling (OpsView, Nagios, ELK, Graphite, Grafana, Zabbix) Scripting and or Programming skills using languages such as Ruby, Python, Go and Java. Familiarity with the core system and/or database administration skills.
* Experience working in multidisciplinary agile teams with software engineering goals. Backend Infrastructure knowledge including switching, routing, VPN's, Load balancing (Software/hardware), CDN. Security knowledge including PKI, Firewalls (Software/hardware), IPS/IDS, Antivirus, SIEM, IDaM, DDOS, SSL, HTTPS
