About the role

A client of mine is currently looking for a freelance Azure Cloud Architect to lead the design, implementation and optimisation of cloud-based solutions on Azure. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect a scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud environment that aligns with the business's goals.



Key responsibilities

*

Design and implement Azure cloud architectures including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS models.
*

Provide expert guidance on cloud strategy, security, networking, identity, and governance.
*

Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into secure, scalable solutions.
*

Lead the migration of on-premises applications and workloads to Azure.
*

Define and enforce best practices for Azure resource management and deployment automation (e.g., ARM, Bicep, Terraform).
*

Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and data protection strategies are in place.
*

Review and improve cost efficiency through monitoring and optimisation of cloud usage.
*

Stay current with Azure services and industry trends to provide innovative solutions.



Required skills & experience

*

Proven experience as a Cloud Architect or Senior Cloud Engineer with a focus on Azure.
*

Strong understanding of core Azure services such as Azure Virtual Machines, App Services, Azure AD, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Functions, and Azure Storage.
*

Deep knowledge of cloud networking and identity management.
*

Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools (ARM templates, Bicep, Terraform).
*

Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
*

Familiarity with security standards and compliance (ISO, GDPR, NIST, etc.).
*

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Your role will include:

Responsible for designing and implementing effective Architectural solutions around the AWS Severless Technologies (S3, Lambda, Athena, Kafka) and Databricks including Data Lake and Data Warehousing.
Assess database implementation procedures to ensure they comply with GDPR and data compliance.
Guide, influence and challenge the technology teams and stakeholders to understand the benefits, pros and cons of solution options.
Agree and set the technical direction for the data platform landscape and solutions, for the short and long term, in collaboration with delivery and engineering teams.
This is a hands on role which requires extensive exposure to cloud technologies (AWS and Azure).
