My client are a global telecommunications company looking to build a UK based Data team and expand in the UK/European markets respectively, they are looking for seasoned Data Architects to come in and provide technical leadership on architecting and designing end to end solutions for their new data lake initiatives.



The ideal candidate will have experience in similar telecom platforms, will be profficient in Azure and Spark.

Role & Responsibilities

* Articulate business and data requirements from business analysts across the various functional and business areas and then design/manage enterprise big data architecture, data governance, and automated data reconciliation.

* Hands-on technical big data architect with extensive experience in designing big data solutions using open source and cloud native technologies.

* Technical line management of remote big data engineering team (10-15). Responsible for engineering excellence, resource management, hiring, coaching engineers, and timely delivery of committed work.

* Create and maintain big data architectural & design artefacts to ensure the up to date documentation for the relevant program and projects is readily available; ensuring knowledge is disseminated.

* Contribute to the evolution and planning of the enterprise architecture from data perspective by ensuring solutions are developed in line with roadmap.

* Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to identify and define customer needs

* Involve in partner selection and partner resource selection to ensure that the right partner/resource are selected who would be assisting the company in development & engineering.

* Be the voice of the customer in the context and value of the business requirements

* Manage the Technical Product Backlog of epics and features and drive prioritisation

* Support data lake design, development, release schedule and maintain a development road ma

Skills & Qualifications

* Demonstrable experience owning and developing big data solutions, using Hadoop, Hive/Hbase, Spark, Databricks, ETL/ELT for 5+ years

* 10+ years of Information Technology experience, preferably with Telecom / wireless service providers.

* Experience in designing data solution following Agile practices (SAFe methodology); designing for testability, deployability and releaseability; rapid prototyping, data modeling, and decentralized innovation

* DataOps mindset: allowing the architecture of a system to evolve continuously over time, while simultaneously supporting the needs of current users

* Create and maintain Architectural Runway, and Non-Functional Requirements.

* Design for Continuous Delivery Pipeline (CI/CD data pipeline) and enables Built-in Quality & Security from the start.

* To be able to demonstrate an understanding and ideally use of, at least one recognised architecture framework or standard e.g. TOGAF, Zachman Architecture Framework etc

* The ability to apply data, research, and professional judgment and experience to ensure our products are making the biggest difference to consumers

* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively

* Excellent written, verbal and social skills - You will be interacting with all types of people (user experience designers, developers, managers, marketers, etc.)

You will be responsible for our clients platform architecture, undertaking continual review and making relevant recommendations for improvement. You will work closely with the Head of Innovation and Head of Development in executing on the technical vision and ensuring that technical solutions meet customer and market requirements. You will have experience in leading an architecture function or in having sole responsibility for software architecture and will be passionate about technology and product design.



Primary Responsibilities:



Architecture:

* Support the Head of Research and Design in defining and communicating the technical vision and architectural runway.
* Be responsible for platform architecture with approval from the Head of Research and Design, undertaking continual review and making relevant recommendations for improvement.
* Assess and communicate the business impact of technical options selected.
* Create and maintain architectural patterns and guidelines for technical design that deliver platform performance, security, ease of release and deployment, usability and ease of servicing.
* Create and sign off on technical designs for development to work from, flagging concerns or risks where relevant about technical solutions being implemented.
* Ensure that technical designs minimize complexity and redesign, maximise reuse and clearly address the 'problem' we're trying to solve.
* Create and maintain the Technology Roadmap and runway to include all components used across the platform (EA and current)
* Prepare architecture for program increment planning and support team through execution
* Ensure that guidelines exist and are followed for the use of open source
* Ensure that architectural standards and best practice are understood and followed by the wider development team.
* Ensure that technical debt is a continual focus and not allowed to increase over time.
* Ensure that clear governance exists around architectural and design decision making.
* Work with the Head of Development and Head of Research and Design to assess how prototype code created for us in proofs of concept (POCs) which can expedite the delivery of fully functioning productized solutions.

Additionally, the Cloud Architect will take a lead role working closely with Operations Engineering team to provide a world-class DevOps Environment capable of handling the anticipated development load.

Responsibilities

* Architect and provide technical direction for our approach for cloud/SaaS and on-premise products

You'll have an existing skillset from a range of backgrounds in legacy BI platforms (SQL Server, SAS, Teradata etc.) but also have current experience in architecting Cloud Data Platform solutions across any of the main vendors - Azure, AWS or GCP, with a preference for Azure.

You'll be responsible for end-to-end solution architecture, including translating business requirements, solution design (Cloud, on-premise or Hybrid), Data Modeling, Data Ingestion (including Event-Based data) and Security considerations.

You will be based a mixture of at home, on site or in office depending upon client preferences and safety considerations, so candidates should be commutable to the company's offices in either London or Edinburgh.
