Mid-Senior/ Senior Java Developer Brussels & Flanders

Java and Open-Source Specialists

Company Profile

This company does not start from existing packages to make adjustments but actually builds custom software from a blank sheet. They like to work with modern technology, so you expect interesting concepts such as microservices, CQRS, reactive programming, etc. These are typically back-end systems with REST APIs, preferably in a Cloud environment such as AWS. Their front-end and mobile developers can then continue to work on this to graft nice user interfaces. They are fully committed to automation, both for building and deploying, but also for testing and infrastructure setup, always look for the right tools and techniques for the project that they get, and do not fall back on the same (and quickly outdated) technology stack.

Of course, they have an agile project operation and organize their projects based on Scrum or Kanban. All necessary tooling for this can be found in the Atlassian suite (JIRA, Confluence). Their teams are, indeed, multi-disciplinary - they mix developers with infrastructure people, testers and UX'ers, in order to achieve true DevOps operation whereby the team is fully responsible for designing, building and running the software.

One of the nicest aspects of this job is that you build software based on your own technical expertise for organizations in all kinds of sectors, and that way you always get a unique insight into that business, which is an enriching experience and you thus move on to the next assigns a solid backpack of knowledge.

Responsibilities, Technologies & Tools

In their special menu, apart from Java they also use extensively Spring Framework, Open Source, Microservices, Docker & Kubernetes, IntelliJ or Eclipse, Git, Maven / Gradle, Jenkins / Bamboo / GitLab, Nexus / Artifactory, Sonar. The more you can bring on the table the better!

This organization does not see the role of Java developer as someone who eliminates JIRA tickets, but rather as someone who, based on his knowledge and expertise, wants to actively contribute to an agile project operation in which everyone's opinion and contribution is appreciated. This way you decide on the technical design of the software, and you work together with UX'ers, testers, DevOps profiles, etc, to achieve the best result together. As a Software developer in heart and soul, you have a healthy interest in new technologies, open-source tools, and software engineering techniques.

Training options The company provides training on all kinds of topics in their own training center, but obviously, they also share their knowledge in internal workshops, visit trade fairs like Devoxx, etc. And of course, both their physical books cabinet as their online copy are filled with the necessary equipment. They actively support the acquisition of relevant certificates,
which you can take in their own test center. A lot of people in their team are certified in Oracle Java (OCA, OCJP, ...), Spring (Core, Advanced Web), Scrum Master, Scrum Product Owner and more.

What you get

In addition to the opportunity to work in a highly professional environment with smart and talented colleagues, you will also get a competitive salary tailored to your skills and experience, a first-class lease car (Mercedes, Audi etc) with a Benelux fuel card, a mobile, and internet plan, lunch allowance, hospital and group insurance and finally, you get to take part in multiple fun activities and team events.

Depends on the client and the project, you can get the opportunity for some remote working from home, one or some times twice a week. The company has three office locations in the areas of Antwerp, Ghent, and Limburg, with the biggest part of the work taking place at the location of the end-client that also includes the Brussels area. As a Java specialist, you get the flexibility to choose the location, duration and the company of your next project.
